Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever. - Psalm 118:1
Often I find that I forget to be thankful for the many blessings in my life. It is easy to forget that there are so many good things in my life, when I feel like I’m staring down a raging storm. The dark storm clouds surrounding me have often obscured just how blessed I really am.
When searching for the verse for this specific post, I knew that some form of Psalm 118:1 existed. However, I did not realize beforehand that this verse is repeated in some form many other times in the Bible. I find this to be a really neat reminder to always be thankful. When my life is good and everything is as it should be, I should give thanks to the Lord. When things in my life are uncertain or difficult, I should give thanks to the Lord. Why? Because, regardless of what I am walking through in my life, he is good and his love for me endures forever.
Even if I don’t see it in the moment, Jesus has provided for me in the good times and in the bad. It is in those difficult times though, that it is easy to forget to be thankful. When I am walking through a difficult time it is easy to focus on all the negative things, and forget about the ways that God has blessed me. Just to know Jesus as my savior is the biggest blessing in my life. His ultimate sacrifice, trading his life for mine, is worth far more than anything God could bless me with in this world. It was a debt I owed, but could never pay, but he said it is paid in full. Giving me the best blessing, a way for me to have a personal relationship with the living God.
I always find it fascinating to look back on my life and see the moments where God worked things for my good. Most of the time it is in hindsight that I can see how God worked all the pieces together to bring about certain things in my life. It’s these good moments in my life that I am thankful for, even when it’s challenging to be thankful. I am so thankful that God has worked so many good things in my life and continues to do so, even when I do not realize it. I am thankful that Jesus lived the sinless life I couldn’t, died the death I owed, and rose from the grave victorious over death and sin. Making a way for myself and others to enter into an eternal relationship with God.
