Jesus Is Still King

“Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, to whom belong wisdom and might. He changes times and seasons; he removes kings and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding; he reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with him.” - Daniel 2:20-22

In just a few hours one of the biggest Presidential elections in history will come to an end and there will be a new chosen leader for our country. This has certainly been one of the most polarizing political battles in recent times. It is undeniable that there has been fear spread from both of the major political parties. It seems as though each election drives us further and further away from unity. I’m not here to discuss political agendas, or what I believe is the right choice for our country. Rather, I hope that you will see that regardless of which side of the political aisle you stand on, there is hope for you.

When the sun rises on Wednesday, November 6, there may still be uncertainty about who the leader of the country is. However, I am certain that Jesus will still be on His throne and He will still be King. If you are a child of God, then you are a citizen of Jesus’ eternal kingdom first and foremost. Yes, we may also be worldly citizens of an earthly country, but this is just temporary. Philippians 3:20 says, “But our citizenship in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ”. As Christians, our citizenship is in heaven, now and forever. This is great news of the hope we have in Christ, regardless if your political candidate wins or loses.

Not only do we have hope in the fact that Jesus is still King and that we are citizens of His kingdom, but God is still in control. Daniel 2:20 says that God, in all of His wisdom and might removes kings and sets up kings. Nothing in this world happens that God is not in control of. He raises up leaders of countries and removes leaders of countries for our good and His glory. We can rest assured that whatever happens God is in control, and He is working for our good and His glory.

In the chaos of this election, I hope that we will find peace in knowing that we are first and foremost citizens of heaven and that God is still in control of the things here below. I pray that we will remember to live like citizens of heaven here on earth and represent Christ well to our neighbors, regardless of their political views. I hope that we will continue to pray for the leaders raised up for our country. Remembering, that ultimately our hope is in the fact that Jesus is still King.
