These past few weeks have been filled with fear and uncertainty.
The world is dealing with a pandemic. You have probably heard of Coronavirus, and know about the fear and panic that it has caused across the globe. Every day the number of infected people, and the number of those who have perished from this virus rises.
It's pretty bad stuff, and everywhere you turn it's more bad news. So, where do you find peace and hope in the midst of panic and uncertainty?
If you are looking for peace in the midst of uncertainty the Bible is a great place to look. Here are a few reminders of peace and hope that keep coming to my mind during this troubling time.
The first thing that came to my mind was Psalms 46. I really encourage you to read it. I think that you will find peace in that text. In this text the Psalmist describes God as sovereign over everything. Psalms 46 reminds us that everything around us can come crashing down, but our God is still in control of it all.
John 16:33 is another great reminder of where we can find hope during troubling times. Jesus himself said that we would face trouble, but not to worry because he had already overcome these troubles. This is a great reminder that the war has already been won for us. Death has been conquered, the debt has been paid, and the stone rolled away.
My last reminder of peace comes from an old song. Maybe you have heard it before? The song is titled "You Are God Alone (Not a God)" preformed by Phillips, Craig & Dean. Part of the song goes like this:
"You are God alone
From before time began
You were on Your throne
You are God alone
And right now
In the good times and bad
You are on Your throne
You are God alone"
This song is based around the scripture of Acts 17:24-25. This passage is just another reminder that God has everything in His control. It's a reminder that God was, God is, and God will be forever on His throne and in control of every situation.
In the end, though the earth would give way, the mountains be moved into the sea, and the oceans rage, I will find peace in knowing that God is sovereign over all things. My hope is in my God, who was and is and will always be on His throne. My trust is in the Lord, the one who made all things and is sovereign over them.
I hope that this blog post was an encouragement to you in this difficult time. I know that the peace and hope found in the verses above have helped calm myself over the past few weeks. I do not normally add additional commentary to my blogs like this, but I wanted to share a quote that I saw today. It goes like this: "It never rains forever. It can't and it won't." -Ginger Zee
One last thing, I want to call you to action. I don't do this very often either, but I feel that it is sometimes necessary. I'm asking that you would join me and instead of worrying about things that are not in our control, but rather we would pray to the God who is always in control. Pray for our leaders, doctors, nurses, and medical staff. Pray for those that are sick, those that could become sick, and those that have lost loved ones. Pray too for our nation, for our world and for healing. Pray for an end to this virus. 2 Chronicles 7:14
Thank you Aaron. This was enlightening and soothing.
