It is a really nice day out across much of the Southeast United States. The cold front that we had earlier in the week, brought not only cooler temperatures but also dryer air. Take a look at these dew points at 3PM today.

It certainly is feeling much better out there today than what we had this time last week. Get out and enjoy it because it won’t last long.
Diving a little deeper into dew point: Dew point is defined as a measure of atmospheric moisture. Basically, it is a measure of how much water vapor is in the air. A higher dew point temperature, means a higher amount of water vapor in the air, and a lower dew point means less water vapor in the air. Dew point is a good measure of how sticky it feels outside. The chart below is just a rough scale of dew point and how our bodies perceive it here in the Southeast. Typically our dew points during the summer are in the oppressive category of 70+. On those 70+ dew point days, the dew point factors into the heat index, or how hot it feels outside. On those days with high dew points and warm temperatures, we can get heat indexes close to 110 or higher. That is why dew point is a huge player into how enjoyable being outside can be.
