It is about to be August, and tropical action typically starts to increase as we head into mid to late August. But, we already have some things to keep an eye on as we begin August. The NHC has already outlined a couple of areas to watch in the next five days.

Looking at disturbance 1, we are not expecting a lot from this one, as it is expected to slide off shore of the east coast later this week. The NHC gives it a low chance (10%) of developing into a tropical system. Nevertheless, we will have to continue to watch this one as it approaches the U.S. Now disturbance 2, has a greater chance of development. Disturbance 2 has a medium chance (50%) of developing in the next five days. Right now it is a disturbance moving out of the Cape Verdes and is expected to drift towards the Lesser Antilles by next week. Disturbance 2 has the potential to become a tropical system by next week, and we will have to keep a close eye on it as it gets closer to the western Atlantic.
