“What did your faith cost you today?”
That is the question I was asked by a friend the other day. It’s not an automatic answer, and honestly it is something that I wrestle with daily. Most days my answer to that question is not spectacular. In fact, it’s not even a great answer. My answer is simply time. It takes time out of my busy schedule to spend time with the Lord. A lot of times it cost me rest, either getting up early, or staying up late, or sometimes both. But, I didn’t write this post to brag or to boast. In fact, spending time with my savior is the least it could cost me. The Bible reminds us in Philippians that when compared to the worth of knowing Jesus, everything else can be considered rubbish.
“Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ”
-Philippians 3:8 ESV

So what should my faith cost? Time? Money? Friends? Comfort? Life? While thankfully many of us will never know the cost of giving up our lives for our faith, yet unfortunately many people have, and will. But, for many of us that live in comfort and security, the answer may be more along the lines of time, friendships, and comfort. Maybe, just maybe that’s the cost as Christians today, to count our comfort and other things as loss, so that they may not be a stumbling block in sharing the good news of Christ with the people we come in contact with. It’s never comfortable to have deep spiritual conversrations with someone you don’t know, but we must rember that we are called to share with all nations, including our very own. Sharing our faith is what we are called to do as Christians, so what if it causes us to have a few awkward or uncomfortable moments a day? Isn’t it just a small price to pay, compared to the price Jesus paid for us?So, let me ask this time...
What did your faith cost you today?
